Accessory guide
Router Bits & Planer Knives
Start with the shape you want to leave in the wood. A groove, a rounded edge and a level board surface need different cutting tools. Choose the profile first, then check the exact Bosch tool, material and mounting system.
[10] [13] [16]This guide covers Bosch accessories for Bosch tools. Check the instructions for the exact tool and accessory before buying or using them.

1. Start with the result you need
A groove or slot: straight router bits
Choose a straight bit when the job calls for a groove, slot or rebate in wood. Bosch PRO Straight, Two Flutes lists those jobs in softwood, hardwood and wood composites. Compare cutting diameter and working length with the groove design; the diameter describes width, while working length describes the cutting portion.
[10]An edge brought level: flush trim bits
Flush trimming brings an overhanging edge level with a reference edge. Bosch’s Bottom Bearing Flush Trim bit is a wood-trimming example with a guide bearing. Choose the bearing arrangement for the reference surface you can actually guide against, then check the setup instructions. Do not select it simply because its cutting head looks straight.
[11] [10]A recess for a joint: jointing bits
Start with the joint drawing and the recess it needs. Bosch’s PRO Rabbeting bit is designed for lap joints and recesses in wood. Its cutting width is listed separately from its overall diameter and working length, so compare all three with the joint dimensions. A decorative edge profile does not establish the recess a joint requires.
[12] [13]A softer outside edge: edge-forming bits
For a rounded shelf edge, look at a rounding-over bit. Bosch PRO Rounding Over is designed to round sharp wood edges. Radius describes the size of that curve; it is separate from the shank that the tool holds. Compare the intended profile, meaning the finished cross-sectional shape, before choosing a diameter.
[13]A rounded channel in the face: surface-forming bits
For a half-round channel rather than an outside edge, look at a core-box bit. Bosch PRO Core Box specifically lists half-round grooves in wood. A rounding-over bit and a core-box bit can both describe a radius while producing different profiles.
[14] [13]Other router bits: check the machine before the name
This route includes Bosch’s Freehand Router Bit Set, described for rotary drills/drivers and deburring in wood and metal. Its drill-driver speed instruction is not a plunge-router instruction. Do not buy it for a router simply because the category says router bits or the shank looks familiar; establish the exact tool, permitted speed and fitting instructions first.
[15] [6]Several profiles or sizes: router bit sets
A straight-bit set is useful when your list contains several groove sizes; a trim-and-edging set answers a different list. Bosch’s Trim and Edging Set includes rounding-over, chamfer and flush-trim types. A chamfer is a sloping edge cut, rather than a rounded profile. Compare the actual profiles, dimensions and shank variant with your jobs; the piece count does not make each cutter useful to you.
[18] [19]Shaping or flattening a board: planer knives
For planing a wood surface, select the knife system for your Bosch planer rather than a router profile. Reversible carbide knives have a second cutting edge that can be used after the first wears. Identify whether the machine has HSS steel knives or a carbide system before buying replacements or a conversion set. HSS means high-speed steel.
[16] [17] [23] [21]2. See how the choice changes
Example: a groove for a cabinet back
If the cabinet drawing calls for a straight groove in a wooden side panel, compare a straight bit’s cutting diameter with the specified groove width. Then check the cutting length and shank, keeping the required groove depth separate from the bit’s total length. A core-box bit would leave a curved-bottom channel instead of the specified straight-bit profile.
[10] [14]Example: rounding a shelf’s front edge
Choose the desired edge radius first, then a rounding-over bit with that profile and the right shank. The core-box route is for a half-round groove in the surface, so a matching radius number would not make it the same choice. For GOF 130 edge routing without a parallel guide, the bit needs a pilot or bearing.
[13] [14] [21]Example: replacing a planer’s worn cutting edges
A worn planer knife is a replacement-system decision, not a router-profile decision. For GHO 6500, replace both blades together; one new blade creates an imbalance and vibration. Its HSS-to-carbide change requires the specified adapter and fitting procedure. An equal knife length alone does not approve a replacement or conversion kit.
[16] [23]3. Check these five details before buying
Profile and material
Keep a sketch of the required groove, recess or edge beside the product description. Check the exact cutter’s material list, even when two cutters have the same shape.
[10] [12] [13] [14] [11]Shank and collet
The shank is the smooth holding end; the collet is the router’s clamp. GOF 130 requires an exact fit, because a mismatch can cause vibration and loss of control.
[21]Cutting dimensions and clearance
Read cutting diameter, working length and any radius as separate measurements. For GOF 130, respect base-plate clearance; with a guide bushing, the cutter must be smaller than its opening.
[10] [13] [14] [21]Speed rating and working setting
For GOF 130, the cutter rating must meet or exceed the tool’s marked maximum speed. Choose the working setting from its material-and-diameter guidance, not the cutter’s maximum rating.
[21]Set contents or planer mounting parts
For router sets, compare every profile and shank variant with your list. For planer knives, identify the blade holder and any required adapter. A kit described as containing adapters does not by itself prove that it converts your model.
[18] [19] [16] [23]Pro tips & practical checks
Do: fit and control the cutter correctly
GOF 130: fitting checks
Unplug before fitting; insert the shank at least 20 mm and respect the bit’s marked minimum insertion. Restore the chip protection after fitting. Never tighten an empty collet.
[21] [10]GOF 130: control the cut
Clamp the work, use both insulated handles and keep hands clear of the cutter. Use the manual’s direction for feeding against the cutter; moving with rotation can pull the tool from your hands. Never rout over nails or screws; wait for complete stop before setting down.
[21]GHO 6500: check the assembled knife system
Unplug before knife work and avoid touching the sharp cutting edges. Follow the matching knife-fitting procedure, verify fasteners and turn the blade head by hand to check clearance before starting. Clamp the work, hold both insulated grips and keep the base flat on it. Wait for the cutter to stop before putting the planer down; an exposed rotating cutter can catch the surface and cause serious injury.
[23]Don’t: carry assumptions between cutting systems
Do not stretch the reach or use a damaged cutter
Do not gain reach by ignoring minimum insertion markings. GOF 130 requires clean, undamaged bits; blunt or damaged cutters can jam.
[10] [21]Do not resharpen every planer knife
For GHO 6500, carbide HM/TC knives must not be resharpened; replace them when both edges are blunt. Do not plane over metal, nails or screws, and keep hands away from the chip ejector.
[23]Common questions
Are a quarter-inch shank and a 6 mm shank interchangeable?
Does the same radius mean the same cut?
