Accessory guide

Machine Accessories

Start with what the machine needs to do: hold an accessory securely, follow an edge, direct heat, collect dust or keep working on battery power. Choose that function first, then identify the exact tool and attachment. A familiar brand or matching diameter is not enough.

[11] [13] [14] [23] [29]

This guide covers Bosch accessories for Bosch tools. Check the instructions for the exact tool and accessory before buying or using them.

Three separate machine-accessory concepts: a keyless chuck, a wide metal heat-gun surface nozzle and a narrow dark crevice nozzle.

Batteries and chargers are a separate subfamily, alongside other machine-specific parts. Check the exact machine model and accessory connection.

1. Find the function you need

Battery Packs and Chargers: power for the next part of the job

Choose the exact battery platform, voltage and chemistry before comparing capacity or charging time. This category includes pod-style NiMH batteries; Bosch’s GBA18V2.0Ah example is Li-ion, a different cell technology. Bosch Professional18V/AMPShare and Home & Garden POWER FOR ALL18V are incompatible systems. Capacity, listed in Ah, must be considered alongside pack weight and the tool’s battery recommendations; it is not a promise of a fixed number of working hours. For an older tool, check its full model and generation before choosing a ProCORE pack.

For Rotary Hammers and Drills: hold the accessory correctly

For a worn drill chuck, first identify how the replacement attaches to the machine. Bosch’s keyless-chuck table separates chuck capacity, the range of bit shanks held by its jaws, from mount range, the connection to the drill. Two chucks can hold the same bit sizes but have different machine-side mounts. For a hammer adapter, verify the exact adapter direction, tool approval and permitted operation before buying; a change of connection does not establish a new drilling capacity.

[11] [3] [44]

For Routers, Planers and Scrapers: hold a cutter or guide an edge

A collet is the sleeve that grips a router bit’s shank; a parallel guide helps keep the cut alongside a workpiece edge. Choose a collet by both the exact router and exact shank size. Bosch requires the correct collet size and says not to use these collets on shank sleeves. Choose a parallel guide for an edge-referenced groove, then confirm its model-specific mount and adjustment range. The cutter profile and the machine attachment are separate purchases to check.

[12] [13]

For Hot Air Blowing: spread heat or concentrate it

A surface nozzle spreads hot air over an area; a reducing nozzle concentrates the jet for a smaller area. For work next to window glass, a glass-protection nozzle has side wings designed to shield heat-sensitive material. For GHG20-63 window-frame paint stripping, that glass-protection nozzle is mandatory because the glass can break. Choose the nozzle for both the target surface and what must be protected beside it, then check the exact heat-gun instructions.

[14] [16] [15] [35]

For Nibbling, Cutting & Pressing: match the replacement to the cut

For a shaped opening in sheet metal, Bosch lists a curved-cut nibbler punch. Its die range distinguishes flat-sheet applications from corrugated or trapezoidal sheet. Start with the sheet profile, the intended cut and the exact nibbler model, then identify its specified punch and die. For a shear, upper and lower blade identity matters; Bosch lists a separate upper replacement blade for particular shear models. Do not infer a pressing attachment or a blade substitution from the category name.

[17] [18] [19] [6]

For Sawing: follow an edge or a circle

Bosch’s jigsaw parallel guide with circle cutter is designed for parallel and circular cuts. Parallel cutting follows an existing edge; a circle cutter guides a chosen radius around a centre point. Choose the guiding method for the shape you need, then check the jigsaw model and allowed workpiece thickness. A guide does not replace selection of the right blade for the material, and the words ‘for jigsaws’ do not establish fit on every jigsaw.

[20] [43]

For Grinders and Polishers: support the abrasive correctly

A backing pad supports the abrasive; it is part of the working assembly rather than the surface-cutting grit itself. Bosch’s soft M14 backing-pad example is designed for fine grinding with fibre discs of P60 grit and above. This M14 pad does not match the India GWS 800’s M10 spindle; the GWS safety examples below do not approve that pairing. The multihole pad is a different example intended for random orbital sanders and dust removal. Choose the machine type and abrasive system before matching diameter, attachment and maximum speed. Do not transfer an angle-grinder pad’s suitability to a polisher because both appear under this heading.

[21] [45] [22] [46] [8]

For Dust Extraction: reach the dirt or maintain filtration

For corners and grooves, a crevice nozzle changes where you can reach. For a replacement filter, identify the exact extractor model and operating mode instead; Bosch’s bellows-filter listing specifies particular machines. A nozzle, hose adapter or replacement filter does not make an extractor suitable for hazardous dust. The GAS15PS manual prohibits harmful dust, including rock dust and beech or oak dust, as well as asbestos.

[24] [23] [36]

For Tackers and Nailers: match soft material and fastener type

For fabrics and other soft, lightweight materials, Bosch’s fine-wire staples are designed to make smaller holes and reduce tearing. The fastener type identifies more than length: the Type53 staples have a specified width and wire thickness. Check the exact tool’s allowed fastener type and length before choosing a box. Bosch’s handheld-tacker description lists Type41 pins for HT14, while HT8 is described for a shorter range of Type53 staples. That distinction does not approve either item for a powered nailer or for a structural fastening job.

[25] [26] [27]

2. Three choices that look similar but are different

Removing paint from a panel versus a window frame

A broad panel suggests comparing surface nozzles; glass beside a painted frame makes protection of the adjacent surface part of the choice. For the GHG20-63, do not substitute a plain surface nozzle for the required glass-protection nozzle when stripping a window frame. Nozzle choice still does not establish a safe temperature or distance for every finish: this manual requires testing the airflow and temperature for the job.

[14] [15] [35]

A chuck with the same capacity but the wrong mount

Bosch lists keyless chucks with the same 2–13 mm holding range but different mounts, including 3/8–24 and 1/2–20. Those mount markings describe different screw-thread connections; they are not extra drill-bit sizes. Use the machine’s specified replacement rather than choosing the first chuck whose jaws open wide enough.

[11]

Topping up a battery versus waiting for a full charge

Bosch lists approximately 24 minutes to 80% and 35 minutes to full charge for the GBA18V2.0Ah on the GAL18V-40. Use the same battery and the same charge endpoint when comparing chargers; 80% and full charge answer different planning questions. The GAL18V-40 manual says charging times can vary and its charge control depends on battery temperature and voltage.

[30] [37]

3. Five checks before buying

Exact machine identity

Use the full model and the number on the tool’s nameplate to identify the machine. An accessory list for one model does not establish fit on another model with a similar name.

[33] [12] [20]

Function, material and working shape

Write down whether you need grip, guidance, heat distribution, collection or replacement cutting parts. Then specify the material and geometry that change the choice: glass nearby, a corrugated sheet or a narrow groove are useful distinctions.

[11] [13] [14] [23] [17] [15] [18] [24]

Both sides of the connection

Interface means the physical connection between parts. Check the machine side and working-accessory side separately: chuck mount and jaw capacity, router model and collet size, or extractor connection and nozzle fit. Do not improvise a sleeve or adapter to make a near-match fit.

[11] [12] [24] [46]

Limits and clearances

Rated speed is the accessory’s permitted speed; for the GWS800 its rating must be at least the maximum speed marked on the tool. Also check the tool’s permitted diameter, thickness and mounting arrangement. For guided sawing, workpiece thickness can be a separate limit: the GST680 manual limits work with its specified parallel guide/circle cutter to 30 mm. That is a named-tool requirement, not approval of the guide pictured elsewhere in this category.

[46] [43] [20]

The complete safety setup

Include required guards, handles, filters and mounting parts in the decision before buying the main attachment. For the GWS800, a rubber sanding pad requires the hand guard, and the tool must not be used without its side handle. For battery power, check the exact tool’s battery recommendations and the manufacturer-specified charger.

[46] [36] [38]

Pro tips & practical checks

4. Useful do and don’t checks

Do charge in the permitted conditions

For GAL18V-40, use an enclosed, dry space; keep its vents clear and keep it off easily ignited surfaces such as paper or textiles. Check the charger, cable and plug before use and stop using them if damaged. The linked Bosch18V battery instructions permit charging at ambient temperatures of 0–35°C. GAL18V-40’s 0–45°C monitoring range refers to battery temperature; it does not replace the battery instructions’ ambient-temperature limit. Keep loose packs away from metal objects that could bridge their terminals, and protect them from heat, fire, water and moisture.

[37] [38]

Do let a heat-gun nozzle cool; don’t trap its airflow

For GHG20-63, unplug before changing accessories and let the nozzle cool before handling it with protective gloves. During GHG20-63 use, wear protective gloves and safety goggles, and keep the work area ventilated. Do not hold the hot jet on one area for a prolonged time or ignore combustible material hidden behind it. Do not place the nozzle so close that airflow is blocked; the tool can overheat. After sustained high-temperature work, run GHG20-63 briefly at its lowest temperature to cool it before switching off. Then let it cool fully on its storage surfaces before packing it away.

[35]

Do fit a router collet exactly; don’t use extra reach as a shortcut

For GOF130, the cutter must fit the collet exactly, and its speed rating must meet the tool’s maximum. Insert at least 20 mm of the shank and refit the chip protection after fitting the bit. Never tighten the collet without a bit or fit a cutter that cannot clear the base plate. Clamp the work, hold both insulated handles and keep hands outside the cutting area. Feed against the cutter’s rotation; feeding with it can pull the router from your hands. Use clean, undamaged cutters, avoid nails and screws, and wait for the cutter to stop before putting the router down.

[40]

Do check the guide setup; don’t treat it as guaranteed accuracy

For GST680, support and clamp the work, keep the footplate resting securely, and keep hands out of the sawing area and from under the workpiece. Use insulated gripping surfaces where the blade could contact hidden wiring or the tool’s cord. Its parallel guide/circle cutter must not be used with the base plate offset for near-edge cutting. Switch off immediately if the blade jams, and let it stop before withdrawing it from the cut or setting the tool down. Use a test cut to check whether the chosen system achieves the accuracy the job needs.

[43]

Do inspect a backing pad; don’t exceed the tool’s limits

The GWS800 instructions require inspection of backing pads for cracks, tears or excessive wear before use. Use the specified mounting parts, hand guard and side handle for its rubber-pad setup. Wear the task’s face/eye, hearing and dust protection and keep others away from the working area. After fitting and checking an accessory, the manual requires a one-minute run at maximum no-load speed with everyone out of the rotating accessory’s plane. No-load means running without contacting the workpiece.

[46]

Do match the filter setup to dry or wet collection

For GAS15PS, dry extraction requires its main filter. Before wet pickup, remove the main filter and any dust or plastic bag, then fit the wet filter and the other prescribed wet-pickup parts. Do not collect combustible liquids or hot, burning or explosive dust. Unplug before changing parts or cleaning, and wear a dust mask when servicing or cleaning the extractor. Stop immediately for a damaged filter or other fault and correct it before reuse. If foam or water leaks, switch off immediately and empty the container.

[36]

Common questions

Will an 18V label tell me which battery to buy?

No. Establish the exact platform, pack and tool first. Bosch Professional18V/AMPShare and POWER FOR ALL18V are separate systems. Bosch also flags possible ProCORE fit limitations for pre-2018 GML20/50 and GKS18V-LI models.

[32] [38] [31]
Can a 6 mm and quarter-inch router collet be treated as the same?

No. Bosch lists 6 mm and quarter-inch versions separately. A quarter inch is 6.35 mm, so choose the exact size and the correct collet for the router. Do not use a shank sleeve to improvise the fit of these collets.

[12]
Does a better filter make my extractor suitable for any dust?

No. The extractor’s permitted material and required filtration setup still govern. For example, the GAS15PS manual expressly prohibits the harmful dust types described above; a replacement filter does not remove that restriction.

[36] [23]
Can I buy a tacker fastener by length alone?

No. Match fastener type as well as length to the exact tool. Bosch’s HT8 and HT14 descriptions show why: they have different permitted length ranges, and the Type41 pin option is listed for HT14. A longer fastener is not automatically the right one for the material or tool.
