Cutting Discs, Grinding Discs & Wire Brushes

Decide whether you need to cut through material, grind it down, or clean its surface. Then choose the accessory for the material and the exact machine.

[6] [7] [8]

Bosch accessory examples for Bosch tools. The named product explains a type; it is not a recommendation for every grinder or drill.

Start with the result you need

Cut a piece off

Choose a cutting disc whose material list covers the workpiece. The cited PRO Stainless Steel and Metal cutting disc is for large angle grinders; it is not a GWS 800 accessory recommendation. This cutting range includes a depressed-centre disc, so that shape does not make it a grinding disc. Read the cutting-purpose and material markings.

[6] [7]

Grind metal away

Choose a grinding disc when the job calls for grinding the metal surface. The cited PRO Metal disc is for grinding with large angle grinders; it is not a GWS 800 accessory recommendation. Decide the operation before picking a disc size, rather than treating every round abrasive as the same accessory.

[7] [6]

Clean a steel surface

Look at wire brushes for cleaning rather than cutting off material. Bosch distinguishes knotted wire for heavy-duty cleaning from crimped wire for lighter cleaning. For small steel surfaces, edges and grooves, its drill-driven PRO Metal clean Wire Wheel is a separate format to consider.

[8] [9] [11]

Use a bench wheel or a mounted point

The Cup Wheels, Grinding Wheels and Mounted Points route contains several machine formats. The cited PRO Metal wheel is for a bench grinder. A mounted point is a small abrasive head on a shank, with cylindrical or conical shapes in the cited steel range. Choose the format prescribed by your machine before choosing the head shape.

[4] [12] [13]

Two jobs that lead to different choices

A steel bar needs shortening, then surface work

Shortening the bar calls for a metal-cutting disc. If the next task is grinding the remaining surface, change to the appropriate grinding accessory. These are two operations, even when they happen on the same workpiece.

[6] [7]

Heavy cleaning versus lighter cleaning

For heavy cleaning on steel, compare the knotted-wire PRO Metal heavy brush. For lighter cleaning, compare the crimped-wire PRO Metal clean range. When the workpiece is stainless steel, check for an explicit stainless-steel application, as on the PRO Stainless Steel heavy brush; “metal brush” alone is not a complete material specification.

[8] [9] [10]

Four checks before buying

1 Operation and material

Read both: what the accessory does and what it works on. “Cutting”, “grinding” and “cleaning” are different jobs; steel and stainless-steel suitability must come from the exact product.

[6] [7] [8] [10]

2 Machine and connection

A bore is the centre mounting hole; a thread screws onto a spindle; a shank is held by a chuck or collet. Compare the exact connection. The India GWS 800 lists M10, while the cited grinder cup brushes use M14. The words “small angle grinder” do not make those threads match.

[6] [8] [11] [12] [14]

3 Dimensions and rated speed

For the GWS 800, keep diameter/thickness within its limits, match the mounting hardware, and use accessories rated at least as fast as the maximum marked on the tool.

[15]

4 Guard and handling requirements

The GWS 800 requires a separate cutting guard for bonded-abrasive cutting. Check your machine’s operation-specific guard before buying.

[15]

Pro tips & practical checks

Do

Inspect before use

For the GWS 800, inspect wheels for chips/cracks and brushes for loose/cracked wires; follow its full pre-use checks.

[15]

Prepare for the operation

For the dry-use GWS 800, use its auxiliary handle and secure the workpiece. If a wheel binds, switch off and hold still until it stops. Never remove a moving cut-off wheel from the cut or restart it in the workpiece.

[15]

Match the accessory to its machine

Use the exact product label and tool instructions, including the connection and permitted duty. A brush for a drill chuck and a threaded grinder brush are different formats, even if both clean steel.

[11] [8]

Don’t

Use a cutting disc as a grinding wheel

Never side-grind or rough-grind with a cut-off disc. Do not fit a toothed saw blade to the GWS 800.

[15]

Force a brush to clean faster

For GWS 800 brushing, avoid excessive loading: flying wire bristles can penetrate clothing or skin. A brush must not interfere with its required guard.

[15]

Common questions

Does a depressed centre tell me whether the disc cuts or grinds?

No. The cited metal-cutting range includes a depressed-centre disc. Read the stated operation and material rather than assuming that shape means grinding.

[6] [7]
Can I use a wire brush instead of an abrasive wheel?

Choose by the task. The cited brushes are cleaning accessories, while the bonded discs are for cutting or grinding. Switching formats also changes the connection, speed and guard checks.

[8] [11] [6] [7]
Where do tile-cutting discs and sanding discs belong?

Use Diamond Drilling, Cutting & Grinding for diamond cutting and cup wheels. Use Sanding Discs, Sanding Belts & Sandpaper for surface-sanding and polishing choices. They have their own material and machine checks.
