Accessory guide

Diamond Drilling, Cutting & Grinding

Choose the result first: a cut through material, a round opening, or a ground surface. Diamond cutting discs, core cutters and cup wheels do different jobs and use different machines and connections.

[5] [6] [7]

Bosch examples explain the accessory types. Follow the exact machine and accessory instructions; wet coring needs its own specified equipment and procedure.

Three separate diamond-accessory concepts: a continuous-rim disc, a long hollow core cutter with a segmented mouth, and a two-row segmented cup wheel.

Choose the job before the diamond accessory

Cutting: a line through tile

Choose a diamond cutting disc expressly intended for the tile. Bosch’s PRO Ceramic example uses a continuous rim to help limit chipping. It is a cutting accessory; it is not a surface-grinding wheel. Check the material marking even when another disc looks similar.

[5]

Coring: a round opening in concrete

A core cutter removes material around a circular opening. The cited PRO Core Cutter wet is for wet drilling in concrete with a diamond drill, including holes for piping. Its G 1/2-inch thread is a machine connection, not the hole diameter. Confirm the specified diamond-drill setup before choosing the cutter size.

[6]

Grinding: work on the concrete surface

Choose a diamond cup wheel or grinding head for grinding the concrete face. Bosch’s PRO Concrete Grinding Head is designed for large concrete surfaces. Its bore mounts the accessory on the specified machine; a matching bore alone does not establish that an ordinary grinder is suitable for the whole operation.

[7] [8]

Two contrasts that make the choice clearer

Trim a tile versus smooth concrete

Trimming a tile calls for a tile-cutting disc. Grinding a concrete surface calls for a concrete grinding head and the required dust-control setup. Do not turn the cutting disc sideways to make it do the second job.

[5] [7]

A pipe opening versus a cut line

For a round pipe opening in concrete, compare the appropriate core-cutter diameter and working length, together with the required diamond-drill connection and wet-use setup. A flat cutting disc solves a line-cutting job; it does not become the right accessory merely because both products use diamond.

[6] [5]

Five checks before buying

1 Material and result

Read the exact material and operation on the product. Tile cutting, concrete coring and concrete surface grinding are separate choices. Do not assume every diamond accessory is approved for stone, metal and tile alike.

[5] [6] [7]

2 Machine and mounting

Keep machine class and connection together. The examples use an angle-grinder cutting disc, a threaded diamond-drill core cutter, and a concrete-grinder head. A bore is the mounting hole; a thread is a screw connection. They are different measurements from cutting diameter.

[5] [6] [7]

3 Size and rated speed

For the GBR 15 CAG, match the head dimensions and mounting flange. The grinding head’s rating must meet the tool’s maximum and its permissible-grinding-tool table. For the listed 125 mm cup wheel, that table requires a marked permissible speed of at least 11,000 rpm or 80 m/s; checking the motor speed alone is not enough. Do not use reducers/adapters or enlarge the head’s bore.

[9]

4 Wet or dry operation

Read the tool and accessory requirements together. The core-cutter example is expressly wet-use. That does not permit water on an electric angle grinder: Bosch warns of electric-shock risk, regardless of the disc used.

[6] [5]

5 Guard and dust control

For GBR 15 CAG dry grinding, use Bosch-recommended cup-wheel, grinder, protective/extraction-guard and Class M dust-extractor combinations. The extractor must be suitable for stone dust.

Pro tips & practical checks

Do

Prepare for concrete dust

For GBR 15 CAG work, wear goggles, hearing protection, gloves and sturdy shoes; its guidance requires at least FFP2 respiratory protection. Use both hands and stable footing.

[9]

Inspect and wait for cooling

Inspect diamond cutting discs regularly and discard cracked or damaged discs. For the GBR 15 CAG, follow the full mounting and test-run checks. Reject damaged, untrue or vibrating heads. Wait for a complete stop before setting down, and for cooling before touching the head.

[5] [9]

Don’t

Side-grind with a cutting disc

Diamond cutting discs are for cutting, not side grinding. Use the appropriate cup wheel for grinding instead.

[5]

Alter the disc to make it fit

Do not enlarge a cutting disc’s bore or remove the guard to fit a larger disc. Choose the correct dimensions for the machine.

[5]

Treat “wet” as a method for any machine

A wet core cutter is not permission to improvise a water supply on another electric tool. Confirm the complete wet-rated setup and its manufacturer instructions before work.

Common questions

Is a diamond cup wheel the same as a diamond cutting disc?

No. The cup-wheel example is made to grind concrete surfaces; the cutting-disc example cuts tile. Choosing between them starts with the result you need, then the machine, material and mounting.

[7] [5]
Does the thread size tell me the size of the hole?

No. On the wet core-cutter example, G 1/2-inch names the mounting thread. The product lists cutting diameter and working length separately. Check all three against the job and diamond-drill requirements.

[6]
Can the same diamond accessory cover every material?

Choose from its stated material list. A product sold for ceramic tile is not automatically a concrete-grinding or metal-cutting accessory. The exact application marking decides its scope.
