Accessory guide

Chisels

Choose the removal job first: break concrete, lift tiles, remove mortar, scrape a covering or form a channel. Then match the working edge and shank to the exact Bosch hammer and its chiselling limits.

[8] [10] [11] [12] [13]

This guide covers Bosch accessories for Bosch tools. Check the instructions for the exact tool and accessory before buying or using them.

Three separate long chisel concepts, labeled pointed, flat and tile, with a pointed tip, straight narrow edge and wider angled tile blade.

1. Match the edge to the job

Pointed: create an opening in concrete

A pointed chisel is the starting comparison when you need to break into concrete rather than lift a surface layer. Bosch’s SDS plus-4C pointed example uses its tip to create openings and break up the material. It is a chiselling accessory, not a drill bit for making a specified round hole.

[8]

Flat: demolition and adjustment

For demolition or adjustment in concrete or brick, compare a flat chisel with the required cutting-edge width. Bosch’s SDS plus-5C Flat Chisel lists concrete and brick for those jobs. Compare its cutting-edge width with the area you can access; total length is a separate measurement.

[9]

Tile: lift a tile layer

For removing tiles, compare a dedicated tile chisel before choosing a general concrete-breaking point. The SDS plus-5C Tile Chisel has a long, thin, angled blade intended for tile removal. That edge shape answers a different job from creating an opening in concrete.

[10] [8]

Spade: remove the specified surface material

Choose from the exact material description, not the word spade alone. The cited SDS max-5C Spade Chisel is designed to remove mortar and uses a long, thin blade. Its SDS max connection is part of the selection; a suitable working edge does not make it an SDS plus accessory.

[11] [10]

Floor scraper: broad removal and a replaceable blade

For a larger accessible covering area, compare the floor-scraper format. Bosch’s SDS plus Floor Scraper has a wide, replaceable blade and lists tiles, mortar, carpet, wallpaper and linoleum. Check whether you need the complete scraper or a replacement for an existing assembly; the detachable blade is not the whole tool connection.

[12]

Other chisels: channels, roughening and compaction

A hollow gouging chisel forms channels; the SDS plus example lists concrete and brick. A toothed bush head roughens concrete, while a tamping plate compacts soil, sand or gravel. The latter two formats use a separate holder in Bosch’s SDS max system. Choose the complete head-and-holder setup against your exact machine instructions; these are three different results, not interchangeable demolition tips.

[13] [15] [14] [16]

2. Two jobs that lead to different choices

A tile strip versus an open floor area

For a narrow tile-removal area, compare the dedicated tile chisel’s 40 mm edge with the available access. For an open area, compare the floor scraper’s 130 mm blade and replaceable construction. Those are dimensions of these two examples, not a rule that the wider accessory is suitable for every hammer or substrate.

[10] [12]

A channel versus a roughened surface

If the project needs a channel in brick, look at the hollow gouging route. If it needs an evenly roughened concrete face, look at a bush head and its holder instead. Start with the required finished shape, then verify the machine system; choosing only by material would miss this distinction.

[13] [15] [16]

3. Four checks before buying

1 Material and removal shape

Write down both what you are removing and what should remain: a lifted layer, an opening, a channel or a roughened face. Use the exact product’s material list rather than treating all masonry work as one application.

[8] [10] [13] [15] [11]

2 Shank and machine duty

The shank is the end held by the machine. SDS plus and SDS max are separately listed connections. For GBH 220, use SDS-plus application tools for chiselling; its intended duty is light chiselling. Neither the category name nor a matching connection removes the exact machine’s operating limits.

[10] [11] [18] [17] [16]

3 Edge width and total length

Edge width describes the working edge; total length runs along the whole accessory. Check that both the working edge and the accessory length suit the available access, then verify the machine connection.

[9] [10]

4 Complete assembly or replacement

A scraper replacement blade, bush head, tamping plate and holder are different purchases. Confirm the exact mating parts and fastening instructions before buying a component on its own.

[12] [15] [14] [16]

Pro tips & practical checks

Do: make the model-specific checks

Fit and latch correctly

For GBH 220, clean and lightly grease the insertion end, then confirm locking by pulling the fitted accessory. Avoid damaging the dust-protection cap; replace a damaged cap immediately.

[18]

Control dust

GBH 220’s instructions warn that mineral dust can harm breathing. Use suitable extraction where possible and ventilation; a P2 breathing mask is advised. Asbestos work is specialist-only.

[18]

Respond to a blockage

If GBH 220 blocks, switch off immediately: expect a strong twisting reaction. Do not restart it with the accessory blocked; wait for complete stop before setting down.

[18]

Don’t: confuse settings or assemblies

Work in the chisel-position adjustment setting

On GBH 220, Vario-Lock adjusts orientation; return to chiselling mode to lock it. Change modes only with the tool off and set direction clockwise for chiselling.

[18]

Treat a head as a complete accessory

Do not assume a tamping plate or bush head includes the holder. Check the listed contents and exact assembly before purchase.

[16] [14] [15]

Common questions

Does SDS plus mean any SDS plus chisel is approved for my hammer?

No. It identifies a connection, while the job, assembly and permitted duty still need checking. For example, GBH 220’s instructions limit its chiselling duty to light work.

[10] [12] [17] [18]
Is a tile chisel just another flat chisel?

Both have an edge, but the cited tile chisel uses a long, thin, angled blade specifically for tile removal. The cited flat chisel is described for demolition and adjustment in concrete and brick. Choose the task-specific shape rather than only matching the shank.

[10] [9]
Will one chisel remove a floor covering and cut a neat channel?

Do not assume so. The floor scraper lists broad covering-removal work; the hollow gouging chisel is designed for channels. Choose the intended result before choosing the accessory width.
