Bosch GDR 120-LI vs GDR 12V-EC impact drivers

Consider GDR 120-LI when you want a 12 V impact driver with a mechanical two-range selector. Consider GDR 12V-EC for Bosch’s brushless motor design, but confirm the exact tool controls before choosing it for electronic speed preselection. Both GDR models use a ¼-inch internal-hex holder. [1]; [2]; [3]; [4].

Check the EC controls before ordering. The India page advertises two-stage control, but its linked manual excludes electronic speed preselection, its speed indicator and the separate PowerLight button for article family 3 601 JE0 0F., which includes the India page’s 3601JE00F6 reference. Ask for the actual tool label and control-panel details if those features matter. [3]; [4]; [5].

Compare the useful differences

Feature GDR 120-LI GDR 12V-EC
India order reference 06019F00F0 06019E00F6
Battery voltage 12 V 12 V
Notable feature Mechanical selector for two speed ranges; change only when the tool is not in use Brushless motor; confirm the actual controls rather than assuming two-stage preselection
Maximum torque 100 Nm in hard screwdriving, ISO 5393; manual basis is 20–25 °C with a GBA 12V 2.0 Ah battery 110 Nm; an identical test-battery and measurement basis is not established
Tool holder ¼-inch internal hexagon ¼-inch internal hexagon
Manual fastener dimensions Machine screws M4–M12; separate maximum screw diameter 8 mm Machine screws M4–M12; separate maximum screw diameter 8 mm
Manufacturer India kit reference Two 2.0 Ah batteries, PH2 bit and case; confirm the actual charger and supplied contents Two 2.0 Ah batteries and case; confirm the actual charger and supplied contents

[6]; [3]; [1]; [4]; [7].

Maximum torque is not a universal fastening setting, guaranteed removal torque or proof that one tool performs a fixed percentage better. Joint materials, fasteners and impact duration affect the result. Follow the required fastening specification and check achieved tightening torque with a torque wrench. [8]; [5].

Choose around the controls you need

GDR 120-LI: mechanical range selection

The manual describes two mechanical gears. Select the range only while the tool is not in use. Choose this model if that control arrangement suits your screw and bolt work within its stated dimensions, then confirm the actual kit before ordering. [1]; [2].

GDR 12V-EC: brushless design, with an exact-type control check

Choose the EC for its documented brushless design if that is your priority. Do not choose it on an unconditional two-stage or separate-light-button promise: the manual’s F-type exclusions apply to the India page’s article reference. Confirm the actual unit and matching instructions first. Brushless construction alone does not establish a measured runtime or service-life advantage. [3]; [4]; [5].

Confirm the supplied battery and charger kit

Bosch’s India kit references describe two 2.0 Ah batteries and a case for each model; the 120-LI reference also lists a PH2 bit. These manufacturer configurations are not a guarantee of the actual store carton. Confirm the battery labels, charger model, mains input and plug before ordering. [6]; [3]; [7].

  • GDR 120-LI: Bosch’s supply list names GAL12-40, while its linked charger instructions and the store description name GAL 12V-20. Ask which charger is actually in the box. [6].
  • GDR 12V-EC: Bosch’s supply list names GAL 1230 CV, while its linked charger instructions name GAL 12V-40. Confirm the actual supplied charger rather than treating those names as interchangeable. [3].

The tool manuals recommend GBA 12V batteries. A family name does not settle the exact replacement pack, charger’s regional electrical version or package contents. Do not infer 18 V battery compatibility from a charger-family name. [1]; [4].

GDR 120-LI questions

Is it an impact driver or a square-drive wrench?

The GDR 120-LI uses a ¼-inch internal-hex holder. The GDS 120-LI is the distinct square-drive version. Choose accessories by the actual GDR interface rather than a general “impact wrench” store title. [1].

What does 100 Nm mean?

It is the manual’s maximum hard-screwdriving torque under its stated ISO 5393 conditions, at 20–25 °C with GBA 12V 2.0 Ah. It is not a target for every screw. Verify the achieved torque with a torque wrench. [1]; [8].

Can I change gears while it is running?

No. Use the mechanical selector only when the tool is not in use. Remove the battery before changing bits or carrying out maintenance. [2].

Which charger comes with it?

Confirm the actual carton. The Bosch supply list, linked charger instructions and store description do not all name the same charger. Check its exact model and electrical label before purchase. [6].

GDR 12V-EC questions

Does it have two selectable speed stages?

Do not assume so for the India F-type reference. The linked manual excludes electronic speed preselection for 3 601 JE0 0F., while the India page advertises two stages. Ask for the actual tool label and controls before ordering for that feature. [3]; [4]; [5].

Is its motor brushless?

Yes, Bosch India describes a brushless motor. That description alone does not establish a particular percentage increase in life or runtime. [3].

Are 2.5 Ah batteries included?

The India kit reference lists two 2.0 Ah batteries. Confirm the actual carton and battery labels; do not infer a supplied 2.5 Ah kit from runtime wording. [3]; [7].

Does 110 Nm set the torque automatically?

No. It is a maximum rating. The joint and impact duration affect the result, so use the fastener or equipment specification and check achieved torque with a torque wrench. [4]; [5].

Bits, sockets and fastener suitability

Both GDR holders are ¼-inch internal hex, so ordinary square-drive sockets do not attach directly. A matching hex size alone does not prove impact suitability, shank length or secure locking fit. The manuals describe a locking sleeve and use of a suitable universal bit holder with ball catch. Check the exact accessory specification and the supplied tool instructions before use. [1]; [2]; [4]; [9].

The listed fastener dimensions do not establish suitability for every automotive wheel, structural connection or other torque-critical joint. Use the required equipment-specific fastening process; do not treat the maximum tool torque as the required joint torque. [1]; [8]; [4]; [5].

Do’s and don’ts before fastening

  • Do read the exact supplied instructions, wear eye protection and use the protective equipment the job requires. Follow the GDR 120-LI manual’s hearing-protection instruction. [10]; [11].
  • Do clamp the workpiece, grip the tool securely and check for hidden services. Use the insulated gripping surfaces where a fastener could contact wiring. [12]; [13].
  • Do remove the battery before maintenance or changing accessories. The EC manual also specifies removal for transport and storage. [1]; [9].
  • Do verify achieved tightening torque with a torque wrench. [8]; [5].
  • Don’t use damaged or modified batteries, expose packs to heat or moisture, or allow loose metal to bridge their terminals. [12]; [13].
  • Don’t apply a running tool to the fastener. Wait until it has stopped completely before putting it down. [12]; [13].
  • Don’t operate the GDR 120-LI mechanical selector while the tool is in use. [2].
  • Don’t rely on EC electronic preselection or a separate lamp button without confirming the exact tool. [4].

These are selected precautions. The supplied tool, battery and charger manuals and the equipment’s fastening requirements remain essential.
