Accessory guide

Sets

Buy a set for the jobs it covers: several hole sizes, a range of screw heads, or both drilling and fastening. Compare the useful pieces and their applications before the number on the case.

This guide covers Bosch accessories for Bosch tools. Check the instructions for the exact tool and accessory before buying or using them.

1. Choose the set around the work

Drill Bit Sets: several holes in a known material

For repeated drilling jobs with different hole sizes, compare a material-specific drill set. Bosch PointTeQ is a metal-drilling example; CYL-1 specifically lists brick and limestone. List the diameters you need, then check each included bit’s working length, the length of its cutting section. A masonry set is not a metal set, and a set’s range is not proof that it contains every size between its endpoints.

[6] [7]

Screwdriver Bit & Socket Sets: recessed heads or external nuts

For screws with a recess in the head, choose bits with the correct head shape and size. For external hexagonal nuts and bolts, Bosch’s PRO Impact Socket Set is a square-drive impact-wrench example. The socket’s key width is the distance across the fastener’s flat sides; its square-drive size identifies the machine connection. Check both: a socket fitting a nut does not by itself establish that it fits your wrench.

[11] [12] [13] [15] [8]

Saw Blade and Hole Saw Sets: define the opening first

For several round openings, compare hole-saw diameters with the fittings or project drawing. Bosch’s HSS Bi-metal Holesaw Set lists softwood, drywall, metal pipes and profiles, non-ferrous metals and plastics, and uses threaded arbors. An arbor is the mounting shaft connecting a hole saw to the drill. Confirm the exact saw, arbor and pilot-drill combination and the drill’s permitted capacity; do not assume those parts are included because the case is called a set. For line or curve cuts, compare saw blades by the machine, material and cut instead of choosing a hole-saw assortment.

[9] [16] [4]

Mixed Accessory Sets: drilling and fastening on the same job

A mixed set is useful when the job involves both holes and screws. The PRO Impact Mixed Set described here combines screwdriver bits, nutsetters, bit holders and HEX-9 Multi Construction drill bits. Read those groups separately: the screw-head choices do not describe the drill bits’ materials, and the nutsetter sizes do not describe hole diameters. Match the drill pieces to the actual substrate before treating a mixed kit as a solution for the whole job.

[10] [7]

2. Compare realistic choices

A steel-bracket job with an 8 mm hole

If the project specifies an 8 mm hole, a set with more pieces is not automatically the useful one. The PointTeQ seven-piece variant includes 8 mm, while its thirteen-piece variant stops at 6.5 mm and includes closer intermediate sizes. Choose the contents that cover the drawing, then check the drill’s metal-drilling capacity. This comparison is about set composition, not approval of a particular drill-and-bit pairing.

[6] [16]

One repeated screw type versus varied installation work

If you mostly drive the same screw, compare duplicates of that exact bit with a broader assortment. Bosch’s two eight-piece PRO Impact bit variants illustrate the difference: one lists eight different head-and-size combinations; the other repeats PH2 and PZ2. For an installation needing holes as well as screws, compare a mixed set, but check whether its drill sizes cover the anchors or fittings you intend to use. You may be better served by the needed bit plus separate drilling accessories than by a case full of unrelated sizes.

[14] [10]

A pipe opening versus fastening a bracket

A round passage through a listed material starts with the required hole-saw diameter. A bolt on the bracket starts with the nut or bolt’s key width and the wrench’s square drive. These are different sizing decisions even if both purchases are sold as sets; write down the required opening or fastener before comparing cases.

[9] [8]

3. Five checks before buying

Application and material

Write down the result first: drill a hole, drive a screw, turn a nut or cut a round opening. For cutting and drilling pieces, check the material stated for that piece rather than applying a category’s material list to the entire case.

[6] [14] [8] [9] [7] [10]

Exact sizes and duplicates

Count useful sizes, repeated sizes and non-cutting accessories separately. A duplicate is another piece of the same type and size; it increases the number of pieces without adding a new size. If one size will do most of your work, identify its full marking so you can compare an exact replacement later.

[10] [14] [11] [12]

Connection to the machine

Shank means the end held by the machine or bit holder; compare its shape and size with the permitted holder. A square-drive socket and a hex-shank screwdriver bit use different connections. Check required holders or arbors as well as the cutting or fastening piece; a matching-looking connection is not a complete compatibility check.

[6] [14] [8] [9] [10]

Duty and access

Impact-rated identifies an accessory intended for the stated impact-driving application; do not transfer that rating from the case name to every component or to a different set. For sockets, compare Standard and Deep variants against the available space and fastener geometry. For bits, compare the stated length and the holder you will use, rather than treating overall length as guaranteed usable reach.

[14] [10] [8]

Exact variant and included parts

Read the selected variant’s contents list, not only the range title or case photograph. Confirm whether holders, arbors or pilot drills needed for your planned setup are supplied or need to be selected separately. Keep the exact type and size of heavily used pieces on your buying list; replacing a worn piece need not mean choosing a larger assortment.

Pro tips & practical checks

4. Use the contents with the right instructions

Do secure the work and plan for a blocked bit

For the Bosch GSB 600, use its auxiliary handle, clamp the work and check for hidden services before drilling. Hold insulated gripping surfaces where a cutting accessory or fastener could contact hidden wiring or the tool’s cord. If the accessory blocks, switch off immediately and expect a high-torque reaction; wait for the tool to stop before setting it down.

[17]

Do choose the mode for the material

Bosch’s CYL-1 guidance calls for impact drilling in full brick and rotary drilling in brittle material such as hollow brick. With the GSB 600, use drilling mode for screwdriving and wear ear protection when impact drilling. Putting bits in one case does not make one mode correct for them all.

[7] [17] [10]

Do treat long bits and screw tips carefully

For long drill bits on the GSB 600, stay below the bit’s maximum speed, start slowly with the tip on the work, and apply pressure in line with the bit without excessive force. Bosch’s screwdriving guidance warns that an incorrectly sized bit can slip; choose the exact head and size. The GSB 600 instructions require screwdriver bits that fit the screw head. Always use a universal bit holder with screwdriver bits on the GSB 600.

[17] [15]

Do control harmful dust

The GSB 600 manual warns that dust from lead-containing coatings and some wood, mineral and metal materials can harm users and bystanders. It calls for good workplace ventilation, recommends a P2 filter-class respirator and warns against dust accumulation because dust can ignite. Only specialists may work on materials containing asbestos.

Common questions

Does a set labelled 2–10 mm contain every diameter in that range?

No. Read the individual sizes: Bosch’s seven-piece PointTeQ example skips some whole-number diameters, while other variants provide different steps. A range tells you the endpoints, not the spacing between included sizes.

[6]
Are PH and PZ just two names for the same bit?

No. PH identifies Phillips and PZ identifies Pozidriv. Match the screw’s actual recess and size; do not substitute simply because both heads look cross-shaped.

[11] [12] [15]
Does “impact” on the case mean I should turn on hammer drilling?

No. The set’s stated impact-driving duty and the drill’s material-dependent hammer-drilling mode are separate checks. Use the tool and bit instructions for the operation you are performing.

[14] [7] [17]
When is a smaller set the better starting point?

When its actual sizes and head types cover your work and the extra pieces in a larger set do not. Compare what you will use, including useful duplicates, then buy the missing specialist accessory separately when the job requires it.
